I’ve decided that improving the SEO level of WordPress will be my next plug-in project. I expect it to be a learning an eye-opening experiment, as there are at least as many opinions on what is optimum SEO as there are themes for a WordPress blog.
All in one SEO has been the standby for some time as a good plugin to get you in the door, but I find its usage to be a little cumbersome. I’ve also tried Headspace2, but that one’s almost a swiss army toolbelt where what you really need is a good chef’s knife.
Why embark on such a hotly contested topic? Simple. It’s enjoyable to write a blog, but why write if no one sees it. Even if you’re not out to be the number one blog in the world, anything that make it easier for your blog to be found is potentially more people interested in your thoughts on the word. Or thoughts on tech, in my case.
I’d be interested in hearing of features that you’d want to have in an SEO plug-in. Obviously control over your titles and tags is good, but are there other features you’ve always wanted for your blog? Comments are of course welcome.
WordPress is an ideal content engine. With the right addons, it’s a great tool for getting your word out, whether that be for commercial intent or just to “spread the word.” I’m already looking forward to the next version.
